29.5.23 Reaching the Faroes

Only in the early hours to sea got quieter but all in all it was again an almost sleepless night.

At 6:00 the alarm went on and after a shower and a small breakfast ( the sea was at this point in time
very calm ) the ferry reached the first islands of the Faroes. A reason to get on deck where one had to cling
to the railings not to be blown away.

Slowly but steadily the ferry reached T
ørshavn where we disembarked at around 7:30 and took passion of our
Rental car after a little wait.

As it was Whitsunday all shops where closed, our booked apartment was only available at around 1 pm so
A quick decision was made to use the available time to visit one of the sites on our "agenda".

After a short drive from T
òrshavn we received the somewhat remote little village of Kirkjhubour where the old
Magnus cathedral ( ruin ) greeted us on the shore. The cathedral was once the main seat of the bishop for the
Faroes.

Some pictures of our first day on the island you can
find here and you can track our tour click here

28.5.23 On sea

Somewhat seasick we woke up and decided to replace breakfast with another motion sickness tablet which gave some relief.

Believe it or not I stayed in bed with eyes closed and lights off for another few hours.

I felt much better after another tablet, some fresh air and a cup of coffee.

Whilst at that point in time it was sunny with some clouds it was very windy and the seat still very rough so that the ferry
was still moving up and down.

It got better so that we reunited for dinner and the obligatory drinks afterwards. Noticeable less people at both venues than the night before. Very like quite a few people preferred to stay in their cabin laying down.

Having had enough sleep the night before I went to bed earlier assuming the night would be better then the previous one but……

27.5.23 Embarkation Day

After yesterdays trying 😉 train ride a good nights sleep was essential.

And so it happened that we woke up refreshed and ready ( almost I should say ) for the day.

Almost, yes, because first of all some breakfast was on the menu.

Then we had to wait for some time to get on the shuttle bus to get us to the Smyril-Line ferry
terminal. No that far away but with a heavy suitcase, camera bag and backpack…….

Screenshot 2023-05-26 at 21.38.36 Check-in was quickly done and one had still enough time to explore the
Ship from the quay.

About one hour before departure we finally boarded and occupied our cabins to unpack and start the exploration
of the MS Nor
ønna.

A fantastic Smorgasbord was waiting for us in the main restaurant which was enjoyed with a nice glas of wine.

With a filled stomach we found our way to deck no 9 to enjoy a nice sundowner with a great view of the sunlit sea.

Unfortunately the night was that relaxing as at about 4;00 in the morning the vessel started
moving up and down
Which made sleeping impossible.

It was a very moving night.

26.5.23 Train Copenhagen - Hirtshals

Sun ☀️ is out and the sky is blue !
Great signs for another beautiful day

With the station just around the corner from the hotel the effort was very minimal to get there.
The track was quickly found and with some nice guys distributing a free energy drink the "on the rails" drink
was also sorted without any effort at all.

Our train departed. Bang on time was was packed. Logic, because it was a Friday with the Monday a public
holiday ( Whitmonday ). Thank God to seat reservations and that even in the quiet car.

IMG_AB6BD7D10752-1 Our itinerary.

It was a relaxing train ride through the Danish countryside. From the island of Zealand through the Great Belt Tunnel to the island of Funen to the mainland and all the way up north to Aalborg where we arrived on the dot.

After a wait of about 40 min the connection train brought through a huge field of raps. Yellow field, blue sky and the sun.

Having arrived in Lillehelden, our final stop, it was only an about 4 min walk to our hotel where a bed was waiting just for the night.
The hotel is in the outskirts of Hirthals and just a few bus stops away from the ferry terminal. Very convenient !

25.5.23 Copenhagen by boat

Blue sky and sunshine greeted us this morning ( and it lastet for the whole day ! ).

After a leisurely breakfast off to the bus stop to get further into town to catch the
boat for a a lovely cruise on the Copenhagen canals originally been build for the
Merchant ships to get into town and for fortification of the town.

Click here to get an impression of our excursion by looking at the pictures I took.

After disembarkation from the boat we refreshed enjoying a nice cup of tea and also
to some strength for a walk across the old town to board a bus to get to the "Freetown
Christiana" an international community and commune. Just click here to get some more
information.

An interesting place dating to the 1970tes where one can openly buy cannabis ( illegal in Denmark ).
Fantastic graffiti on the buildings in the compound and on the surrounding walls.

24.5.23 Exploring Copenhagen

After a good nights sleep a good breakfast is very important to get once strength for the day to come.

Weather was a bit overcast in the morning but it was supposed to clear up at around lunch time ( and yes it did ! ).

What is the best way to explore a town ? Something a bit touristic: using a Hop-On Hop-off bus which gives
you a very good overview of the sights.

Fortunately a bus stop was close buy so that the effort was very minimal for a start.

Just have a look at the pictures I posted here. for little impression

We finished our exploring tour in the Tivoli ( the third oldest entertainment park in the world after which Disneyland was modelled. Walt Disney was in Copenhagen a few times to get ideas ! ).

23.5.23 On our way to Copenhagen

Both Friederike and myself had to get up quite early to make our way
to the airport.

Both flights departed well on time and we arrived safely in Copenhagen
where it was raining at the point of arrival.

As Friederike's flight arrived about one hours after mine I had enough
time to investigate where to buy the train tickets to get us into town.

The train ride was very short and our hotel only 4-5 minutes away from
the main railway station.

The rain had stopped so even this short walk in the fresh air was great
For both of us after almost a whole day in carriages or cabins.

After a bit of unpacking we met for a leisurely stroll and found almost around
the corner a very nice Tapas bar where fresh beer and some tapas have
Been waiting for us.

Today it was an early night for both of us due to the early rise.

Weather forecast for tomorrow IMG_77CC8E719A69-1 sunshine !!!
